I nearly choked on my weetabix when I read the non league paper and saw who scored Erith's two goals yesterday. Watching our lightweight forwards trying their best, but lacking the goalscoring prowess required at this level, it was obvious to all, that what was needed was an experienced striker to put the ball in the net when we dominated for the first 20 minutes, thus taking the pressure of the defence. I the know stock answer to me will be that Portway didn't score regularly for us, but I am 100% certain that he would have put away at least three of the chances that have been missed over the past few games, and young Luke would have learned a lot playing alongside him for the remainder of the season.

I believe Steve Portway was released for Financial/Budget reasons, not Playing reasons.

I realise that it was for financial reasons, that is what makes it all the more amazing that Erith have signed him , surely they cannot be more financially secure than Tonbridge,? for one thing they play on another club's ground. The point I was making was that had we kept a genuine proven southern league striker until the end of the season, there would have been a good chance of obtaining a top six finish, which would have maintained the interest of the supporters(look how the gates have dwindled) more income would have been generated, and the new lottery, which I sincerely hope is a major success, would have been launched from a position of strength.
