I was wondering, seeing as there has been one hell of loyalty to the club beeing shown by Alan and co, surely the players could afford to do the same. Its not like this is their proffesion. I am sure they are still getting paid from their full time jobs and wont miss a months beer money. It would do the club a real big favour and show that the loyalty is straight through the team not just at the top.
What a news article that would be and great publicity for the club. May even bring in more fans. "Angels receive delight from players"

Oh the Irony, three ex-Maidstone players showing such loyalty to your club!
Before i get a load of abuse, would just to to say that I hope everything turns out OK as the more Kent teams in the higher echelons of football the better. That said, can we have Walks back if it does all go t*ts up? Maybe not!

Some players don't have another job, Rowland and Royston and Cass to name three and the ones who do can't necessarily afford it. I think you are being a little presumptuous and unfair in calling their wages beer money, when some players I am sure rely heavily upon this money. I agree that those who are relatively wealthy and able to afford to go a month without pay could follow the managements lead but it is unfair to ask this of a team which is obviously not money grabbing with their committed performances on the pitch so far this season. With this sort of comment you are adding pressure on a team which has been through an emotional rollercoster in the last few weeks, it is not needed. Those who wish to take a pay cut or go with out should do so off their own backs not because supporters or anyone else for that matter asks/puts pressure on them to do so, but because they want to.

i am sure the players would rather have a winners medal for success in the league, and will probably help out with a reduction in wages, perhaps a promise of a bonus for winning the title may persuade them to stay loyal to the club (it would be nice to think that players will stay for the football and not just the money)

Some players may not be able to afford to stay loyal even with the possibility of medals and bonus', especially at this time of year.

Are wages at the angels that high that players dont need a full time job if so then changes have to be made now as promotion will only see these cost escalate out of all proportion

Players could be on between £100 to £250 per week, That could be paying mortgages etc, including Alans , shows what a great gesture it is, considering how many clubs he could go to now with this seasons record. Lets get as many at KL on Sat as Poss.

Tester,
Are you emplying that because Alan and co have given up their wages they can afford it? I think not. Ok so some do not have a full time job but if the club does not stay afloat then they would not have this either. Surely the players are there not just for money. I do think that a wage reduction is a very good idea and a bonus incentive if they acheive promotion. Giving our current league status i think its a reasonable gamble don't you.
Maybe we could also look at a gate increase of £1. Not something that will break our banks. After all we spend this sort of money on the fruit machines.

I am not suggesting that players are at the club for money orientated reasons soley, but merely suggesting that some players cannot afford to missout on between 100-200 pounds per week and should this occur may be financially forced to seek another club which, might I add, may even pay them in light of recent form more than they currently earn. Also Mr Walker can obviously afford to not be paid for a month as otherwise he wouldn't have agreed this kind gesture.

Ok so some do not have a full time job but if the club does not stay afloat then they would not have this either. The club is in NO danger of going under whatsoever. Financial cutbacks affecting the team and/or squad size may yet prove to be necessary if sponsorship/other income does not materialise. Most of the players would still therefore "have this", even if cuts were implemented. I do think that a wage reduction is a very good idea and a bonus incentive if they acheive promotion. Would you think it was a good idea if your employer did something similar to you? I wouldn't. I'd probably look for a better deal.

But we're not talking about employers are we, we are talking about playing football which all of the players would be doing anyway. Even if they were not getting paid to do it. If you are saying that if players dont get the money they want they will go to another club where they will get it then are those the types of players we need? Even if they forfiet one weeks wages surely this is a good gesture. Although it might not solve all the problems but its the gesture that counts. Also to assume that Alan can do without the money is a bit ignorent considering you probably do not know his current financial situation. Why does it seem ok for mangers and back room staff to do it but to mention the players doing has causued uproar. I cannot see why managers should always be the ones that are blamed for bad results and the ones that have to forfeit themselfs for the club. Players know that fans will respnd in the way some of you are and they play on it. I bet those of you that disagree with me are the firsts ones to say down the pub "if Leeds are in trouble they should reduce the players wages." Come on be honest with yourselfs. Dont just respond negatively because you can.

We obviously do need these sorts of players cos they got the club to where it is today you see to presume that the players are well off individuals and this is not the case with quite a few. Why don't you put y6our money where your mouth is and donate a third of youyr income for december to the club.

Jonny, are you mates with NWS? You seem to think we live in a world where footballers play for the team they've always dreamt of playing for and that money isn't an issue as long as their playing for their team. This is reality here, their semi professional footballers doing a job and a bloody good job by that! Also you can't question their commitment as it certainly shows on the pitch, so why the hell shouldn't they get paid!! If they all had to take a very small cut they might well do, but I wouldn't personally expect them to take a 30-40% cut that was proposed. What Alan, Lloyd & Overs have done is a fine gesture and all credit too them! We just have to now hope and keep our fingers crossed we find a sponsor in time. Anyway lets all get behind the team on Saturday at Kings Lynn as all the boys deserve our support and im sure it will proove be a tough game. We are the LIDS!!! ;D

Let me first go on record and say that i have no connection with NWS neither do i intend to. The less said about that person the better.
I have just expressed my personal opinion to which i am entitled to. We have all come up with good points against each others ideas. With regards to the proposed 30-40% decrease i was unaware of this and i might add i never once suggested this figure.
I would gladly give up a months money towards my job as i run my own business. And this would enable me to maintain my financial position although not needed at the moment. Hope i never have to. If i love my job which i do then YES i would gladly give it up. So that answers your question.
Maybe when the work starts on improving the ground we will see many supporters offering their spare time to help out, even if its decorating or something. Every penny counts.
